Spam Emails - CU Lottery

East Kilbride Credit Union has recently been made aware of an email being circulated among credit union members, suggesting the recipient has won a monetary prize through a credit union lottery.

The email is received from www.culottery.co.uk, announcing your win and will most likely ask you to reply with bank details.  Any members replying to these emails or providing bank details will be placing themselves at risk of identify fraud.

East Kilbride Credit Union would like to inform members that we don’t run a member lottery and there is no national credit union lottery as stated in the email.

We will never email members requesting confidential information such as bank details or authorise any payment transfers via email.

If you receive one of these emails, please ignore it.

If you are in any doubt about what to do or are unsure about any email you have received regarding the credit union, please feel free to phone a member of staff on 01355 224771.

Linda Fabiani Has Joined EKCU

Linda Fabiani MSP for East Kilbride has joined East Kilbride Credit Union and is encouraging other residents to do the same.

Linda said:  “I have been a Credit Union member for many years and I am delighted to now join East Kilbride Credit Union too in this special 30th anniversary year.

“Credit Unions offer a financial lifeline to many families who might not qualify for mainstream credit and can prevent them from using services which charge huge interest rates for things such as pay day loans.

“Credit unions are a great place for savers too. They promote better money management by encouraging people to save up and helping them to budget properly and stay within their means instead of constantly overstretching themselves.

General Manager of East Kilbride Credit Union, John Lange, said:

“We are delighted that Linda has joined her local credit union at a time when more and more people are using our services.  She has always supported us strongly in Parliament and she has a great awareness and understanding of the issues facing credit unions in the current economic climate.  I hope this is the start of a long and fruitful relationship.”

Support from Local MP, Michael McCann

Local MP Michael McCann has given East Kilbride Credit Union his wholehearted backing and has urged constituents across East Kilbride and Strathaven to support the local, community-based financial organisation where members save together and have access to affordable credit.

And the MP followed up his words with actions this week by opening his own account at the credit union’s headquarters in the Village, East Kilbride.

Michael said, “The banking crisis was a real body blow to the nation’s economy, but if you analyse the banking sector it was the cooperative-based models, like credit unions, that weathered the storm best and have emerged from the crisis intact.

“The credit union is owned and controlled by its members but it also benefits from strong support from the Association of British Credit Unions Limited (ABCUL) and is regulated by the Financial Services Authority.

“I suppose, like many people, I have always wanted to join the credit union but never got around to it. I have changed that this week by opening my own account and I hope many others follow in my footsteps.

Its worth remembering that credit union membership is open to anyone who lives in East Kilbride and Strathaven. Other local credit unions are available across the constituency.”

John Lange, the general manager of the EK credit union, and board members, briefed the new local MP on forthcoming proposals to change regulations governing credit unions and are now seeking Michael’s support for their continued success.

John said, “We are delighted Michael is involved with our work and that he has confirmed he can advocate for our industry’s needs in parliament. We look forward to a long and fruitful relationship.”

MSP praises Credit Union on 30 years of service to the people of East Kilbride

Central Scotland Labour MSP Margaret McCulloch praised her local credit union for 30 years of service to the people of East Kilbride - and even signed up to join - after meeting with General Manager John Lange, credit union stalwart Pat Farrell and local staff at the Village headquarters of East Kilbride Credit Union.

East Kilbride Credit Union was founded in 1982 and has since grown to have over 5000 members, with 500 junior savers, assets of £5 million and £2.8 million of loans to the people of East Kilbride and the surrounding area.

Credit Unions are an ethical and affordable alternative to high street banking and high interest lenders such as pay day loan companies. Credit Unions are owned by their members and their collective savings are used to lend to other members in a fair and accountable way.

Margaret McCulloch MSP said:  “East Kilbride Credit Union has served the community for 30 years and it is still going strong, with a great profile and a great record in the town. I was only too happy to join up and to do my bit to promote the service that is available locally because I know that credit unions are a unique, affordable alternative to other lenders at a time when household budgets are being squeezed and the economy is quite uncertain.

John Lange, General Manager of East Kilbride Credit Union, said:  “All of us at East Kilbride Credit Union are delighted that Margaret found the time to visit us and discuss the issues facing credit unions. As our newest member, she will benefit from being part of the fastest growing financial sector in the UK and we know that she will be a great advocate for credit unions in the Scottish Parliament.”ff, good volunteers and good members behind them that East Kilbride Credit Union will go from strength to strength in future, regardless of the economic situation.”
