Living Wage

EKCU are proud to be a Living Wage employer!

The real Living Wage is based on the cost of living and is voluntarily paid by nearly 6,000 UK employers who believe a hard day’s work and deserves a fair day’s pay.

Our General Manager, John Lange, said “East Kilbride Credit Union are proud to be a Living Wage employer. We see this as an investment in our team and believe that providing good working conditions and pay results in a higher level of staff motivation, staff retention and improved relations between managers and staff.”

EK Challenge Poverty Event

EK Challenge Poverty

EK Challenge Poverty Event – Saturday 22nd June 2019

EKCU was very excited to be part of the Challenge Poverty event in the East Kilbride library recently along with other businesses and charities dedicated to helping those in need.

We had a great time chatting to members of the public and to MSP Linda Fabiani and Westminster MP Lisa Cameron who came along to support this great cause.

Credit Unions exist to serve their local community and this event gave us an insight to the struggles that people in our town face every day. This was highlighted by Dennis Curran, founder of Loaves and Fishes, who gave a powerful speech addressing the increased number of people using foodbanks. To support this charity, we have a box in the office for anyone who would like to donate to the foodbank.

We also work in partnership with the local Citizens Advice Bureau who come into the credit union once a month to offer advice for anyone currently having money problems or struggling to pay bills. If you think this service would help you, please call us on 01355 224771 and we will let you know when they are next due in the office.

Online access and office opening hours

Here at EKCU we’re very excited about the imminent arrival of our new App providing our members with access to their credit union accounts 24/7.  With constant improvements in technology the number of online transactions has continued to rise as members demonstrate their preference for digital transactions.

With almost 75% of our members making loan repayments and deposits by standing order, payroll deduction and debit card, we have noticed there are fewer busy periods in the office and we need to consider how we best serve our growing membership going forward.

From Monday 3 June 2019 the public counter will now be open as follows:

Monday 12:00 to 16:00
Tuesday 12:00 to 16:00
Wednesday 10:00 to 16:00
Thursday 12:00 to 16:00
Friday 12:00 to 16:00
Saturday 10:00 to 12:00

Our staff will still be here Monday to Saturday and will be busy working on your accounts and answering your telephone calls throughout the day from 09:00 to 17:00.

The benefits of accessing your account online means you can instantly check your balances, apply for loans and share withdrawals, make payments by card to your savings and loan accounts, and leave us messages.

Getting access to your CU account online couldn’t be easier:

  • Click here to Register for PIN
  • Fill in the required details making sure you take note of your PIN and passwords
  • Click Register
  • We will approve access within 24 working hours, usually much quicker

Whichever way you access your local credit union, you can be sure of a warm welcome from our friendly and dedicated team.

Treasurer’s Gift

EKCU Treasurer’s Gift

Each year at the AGM the Directors choose one or two local charities to receive a share of the Treasurer’s Gift. This used to be paid to the Treasurer as an honorarium but since most of the finance and accounts work is done on computers by the staff team the Treasurer has very kindly donated the money to charity.

Parkinson’s UK

Parkinson’s UK were delighted to be one of our chosen charities and will put our charitable donation to good use.

Maggie’s Centres

Maggie’s Centres greatly appreciated our donation of £200.

Cyber Essentials Accreditation

Cyber Essentials Accreditation

East Kilbride Credit Union is delighted to have achieved the required standard for the government-backed Cyber Essentials scheme.  General Manager, John Lange said, “The Board took the decision to seek accreditation as they are well aware of the risks to member data through viruses, malware and other cyber-attacks.  We worked closely with our local IT partners VectorCloud to help us secure the network and keep the devices and software up to date.  This helps us guard against the most common cyber threats and demonstrates our commitment to cyber security.”

Our new common bond also allows for family members to join the credit union if they live with and are related to an existing member.

Linda Fabiani Has Joined EKCU

creditunion12
Linda Fabiani MSP for East Kilbride has joined East Kilbride Credit Union and is encouraging other residents to do the same.

Linda said: “I have been a Credit Union member for many years and I am delighted to now join East Kilbride Credit Union too in this special 30th anniversary year.

“Credit Unions offer a financial lifeline to many families who might not qualify for mainstream credit and can prevent them from using services which charge huge interest rates for things such as pay day loans.

“Credit unions are a great place for savers too. They promote better money management by encouraging people to save up and helping them to budget properly and stay within their means instead of constantly overstretching themselves.

General Manager of East Kilbride Credit Union, John Lange, said:

“We are delighted that Linda has joined her local credit union at a time when more and more people are using our services. She has always supported us strongly in Parliament and she has a great awareness and understanding of the issues facing credit unions in the current economic climate. I hope this is the start of a long and fruitful relationship.”
